The Fifteen Vowels of the English LanguAge

We have fifteen vowels, not five or six: a, o, u, i, e, sometimes y!

But what is a vowel? Vowels are open unobstructed speech sounds and are voiced and are determined by the position of the lips and tongue. Vowels are the heart of the               , and every syllable needs a vowel or vowels and there are no words without a vowel!

 

Each fifteen vowel has many ways to identify it and each one of them has its meaning; for example, the long vowel /ā/ has ten ways to identify it as follows: male, mail, may, great, eight, baby, vein, they, waste, and change.
